Jody Hammond has covered many of the major stories in southern California over the past 25 years. Raised in Los Angeles and San Diego, she graduated from UCLA with a degree in Latin American Studies and received her Masters degree in International Relations from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Jody’s broadcast career began in radio after a stint as a page at NBC in Burbank. Starting in a two-person news department at a small hard rock station, she eventually was a weekend anchor and field reporter at KNX Newsradio, the CBS owned and operated all news station in Los Angeles. After five years covering some of the most notorious crimes, trials and Hollywood scandals, Jody moved to San Diego where she was hired by KCST (now KNSD), the NBC TV affiliate. Being fluent in Spanish, Jody quickly found that the border beat, including regular assignments in Tijuana, gave her the opportunity to cover some of the most fascinating stories anywhere. How many people can say they’ve reported news from two countries in one day!

Jody eventually moved to the CBS affiliate in San Diego, KFMB, where she spent twelve years as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor. She produced everything from light features to hard-hitting investigative pieces. Jody then moved to the ABC affiliate, KGTV, as a special assignment reporter, where she spent four years.

During her reporting career, Jody has won six Emmys and four Golden Mikes, as well as numerous Los Angeles and San Diego Press Club Awards, community service awards and a National Headliners Award. She is a familiar and trusted name in San Diego.

Jody now spends her time field-producing for NBC News, producing educational videos and making documentaries. Her project “A Hand Up: The Vietnamese Nail Salon Success Story” aired on California PBS stations and won Best Documentary from the San Diego Press Club. She is now completing another PBS project, “Packed House” about Americans’ cluttered lives. Clients include the Cleveland Clinic, San Diego County Office of Education and the San Diego Zoo. She is married with two teenage daughters.
